Professional Hair Dryers in New Zealand
A good hair dryer saves time every single day. The right one dries thick hair in minutes rather than a quarter of an hour, gives a smoother, shinier blow-dry and puts less stress on the hair along the way. This collection brings together salon and home dryers, from compact travel models to brushless high-speed dryers and Italian-made salon workhorses.
There are around 80 dryers here from Silver Bullet, Parlux, ghd, BaByliss Pro, Evy, Pro One, Muk Hair, Gamma+, Stellar, Yokubo, Cloud Nine, Glide, HH Simonsen and Wahl, plus nozzles, diffusers and gift sets. Zilion is an official NZ stockist of every brand here, so each dryer is genuine stock sent from within New Zealand.
About Professional Hair Dryers
Three things decide how a dryer performs: the motor, the airflow and the heat. Traditional AC motors are durable and powerful but heavier, which is why many salon dryers still use them. Brushless or BLDC motors spin much faster, so they push out a strong, focused stream of air from a lighter, smaller body. The Pro One Aerolite, for example, pairs a 110,000 RPM motor with a body of just 299g, and the Silver Bullet Resolution uses a 100,000 rpm brushless motor.
Wattage gives a rough guide to power, from around 1200W for mini travel dryers to 2300W and above for salon models. Ionic, ceramic and tourmaline technologies are designed to reduce static and frizz for a smoother finish, and infrared heat is used in some dryers, such as the Muk Blow 3900-IR, to warm hair more evenly. Multiple heat and speed settings, plus a cool shot button, give you control to set the style once it is dry.

Benefits of a Professional Hair Dryer
- Faster drying. Stronger, more focused airflow means less time with the dryer every morning.
- Smoother results. Ionic, ceramic and tourmaline technologies are designed to reduce frizz and static.
- Less heat stress. A powerful dryer can dry hair at a lower heat setting.
- Lighter in the hand. Brushless dryers are much lighter, which makes a big difference with long or thick hair.
- More control. Several heat and speed settings and a cool shot let you shape, then set, the style.
- Built to last. Salon dryers are made to handle daily, heavy use.
Hair Dryer Buying Guide
Thick, long or coarse hair. Choose a powerful salon dryer of 2000W or more, or a high-speed brushless model such as the Pro One Aerolite, Silver Bullet Resolution or Stellar OmniFlex.
Fine or fragile hair. Look for good low-heat settings and a lighter dryer. High airflow at lower heat dries fine hair without overheating it.
Curly hair. Pick a dryer with a diffuser, such as the Silver Bullet Black Velvet or Evy Boss Dryer With Diffuser, and use low speed to keep curls defined.
Salon use. A Parlux, Silver Bullet Jetliner or Evy Boss is built to run all day. Barbers can look at the Parlux Ardent Barber-Tech, made for barbershop work.
Travel. Compact and folding dryers, such as the Silver Bullet Hi-Flyer Fold or BaByliss Pro Bambino, fit easily in a bag.
Weight and noise. If you dry your hair every day, a lighter, quieter brushless dryer is worth the extra spend.
How to Get a Better Blow-Dry
Towel-dry gently and apply a heat protectant. Rough-dry on medium heat until hair is about 80 percent dry, then clip it into sections. Fit the concentrator nozzle and point it down the hair shaft, from roots to ends, while you brush or smooth each section. Finish each section with the cool shot to set the shape. Clean the rear filter regularly, as a blocked filter makes the dryer run hotter and less efficiently.
