Hair oils sit at the end of a routine. Most are leave-in products applied to towel-dried hair before styling, or to dry hair as a finisher, where they smooth the cuticle, cut down frizz and add shine. What is argan oil?

What is the difference between a hair oil and a hair serum?
Oils are usually based on plant oils, while serums often rely on silicones for slip and shine. In practice the categories overlap, and many products, such as Wella Ultimate Smooth Miracle Oil Serum, combine both.
What is a dry oil?
A dry oil absorbs quickly and leaves little residue, so hair looks shiny rather than oily. KMS HairStay Dry Oil Spray is a good example.
Can hair oil protect against heat?
Some can. ghd Sleek Talker, De Lorenzo Defence Thermal Argan Oil and Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil are made to be used before heat styling. If your oil does not say so, use a separate heat protectant.
Can I use hair oil before straightening?
Only if the oil is designed for heat. Otherwise apply a heat protectant first and use oil afterwards as a finisher.
What are Brillare oil shots?
They are single-use 6ml vials of concentrated oil, sold in packs of eight. Brillare makes rosemary, onion and bakuchiol, tea tree and salicylic, and argan and phytolipid versions.
How do I use a pre-wash scalp oil?
Massage it into a dry scalp, leave it on for the time stated on the pack, then shampoo thoroughly. You may need two washes to remove all the oil.
Do hair oils make hair grow?
Cosmetic oils cannot change how hair grows. Scalp oils such as rosemary blends are popular for scalp massage and care; for sudden or patchy hair loss, see your GP.
Can hair oil help a dry, itchy scalp?

Is coconut oil good for hair?

Is there a hair oil for babies?
Yes. Baby Forest Nanhi Champi is a baby hair massage oil. Do a small patch test first and stop if your baby's skin reacts.
Are there vegan or unscented hair oils?
Hanz De Fuko Hair Oil is vegan and unscented. For other products, check the individual description, as claims vary by brand.
How much hair oil should I use?
One pump suits short or fine hair, two or three suit long or thick hair. Too much leaves hair looking greasy, so build up slowly.
How often should I use hair oil?

Can I leave oil in overnight?

Should I use hair oil with a conditioner?
