A trimmer is the finishing tool. Where a clipper takes bulk off, a trimmer has a narrower, finer blade made for the detail: crisp hairlines, sharp beard edges, clean necklines, fades blended right down to the skin, and tidy sideburns. About Our Trimmer Collection
Three things separate one trimmer from another. The first is the blade. Most professional outliners use a T-blade, a wide, straight blade that cuts sharp lines; deep-tooth and zero-gap blades cut closer to the skin for skin-tight line-ups, and titanium or DLC (diamond-like carbon) coatings stay sharp and run cooler. The second is the motor: brushless motors, such as those in the BaByliss Pro FX3, LO-PRO and FXONE, deliver steady torque and run at speeds of around 7,200 RPM without bogging down in thick beard hair.
The third is design. Skeleton trimmers have an exposed, see-through housing and a 360-degree view of the blade for precise detail work. Low-profile trimmers such as the LO-PRO sit closer to the head for better control. Interchangeable battery systems, used on FXONE and SNAP FX, let you swap a fresh battery in mid-shift. Smaller trimmers trade some power for portability and are ideal for touch-ups, travel and personal grooming.

Trimmer Buying Guide

How to Care for Your Trimmer
Brush hair out of the blade after every use and oil it regularly with a few drops of blade oil: a drop at each end and one in the centre, then run the trimmer for a few seconds and wipe off the excess. Disinfect blades between clients with a barber spray. Zero-gapped blades should be adjusted carefully and only by someone who knows how, as an over-tight gap can nick the skin. What is the difference between a trimmer and a clipper?

What is an outliner?
An outliner is a trimmer designed for crisp hairlines, necklines and beard edges. Most use a wide T-blade, such as the BaByliss Pro FX and FX+ outliners.
What is a T-blade?
A T-blade is a wide, straight trimmer blade shaped like a T. It cuts sharp lines and is the standard blade on professional outliners.
What does zero-gap mean?
A zero-gapped trimmer has its cutting blade set almost level with the fixed blade, so it cuts extremely close to the skin. Many BaByliss Pro trimmers are designed for zero-gap outlining.
Is zero-gapping safe?
It is used by barbers every day, but an over-tight gap can nick the skin. Adjust carefully, or leave it to a professional if you are unsure.
What is a skeleton trimmer?
A skeleton trimmer has an exposed or see-through housing and an open blade view, giving more visibility for detail work. The BaByliss Pro FX Skeleton is a popular example.
What is a brushless motor?
A brushless motor runs cooler and more efficiently than a traditional motor and holds its speed under load. The BaByliss Pro FX3, LO-PRO and FXONE trimmers use brushless or digital motors.

Are these trimmers cordless?
Most are cordless with rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Check each product page for charging and run time details.
Can I use a trimmer while it charges?
Some models can run corded, others cannot. Check the product page or manual for your trimmer.
How often should I oil my trimmer blade?
Oil it regularly, ideally after each use or at least every few uses. Place a drop at each end and the centre, run it briefly and wipe off the excess.
How do I clean my trimmer?
Brush out hair after each use, oil the blade and disinfect with a barber spray. Never rinse a trimmer under water unless the manufacturer says it is washable.
Why is my trimmer pulling hair?
A dull, dirty or dry blade usually causes pulling. Clean and oil it; if it still pulls, the blade may need replacing.
When should I replace the blade?
Replace it when it pulls, cuts unevenly or stays hot even after cleaning and oiling. Blade life depends on how often you use it.
Why does my trimmer get hot?
Friction from a dry or dirty blade is the usual cause. Oil the blade and keep it clean. Brushless and titanium or DLC blades tend to run cooler.
Do I need a clipper and a trimmer?
If you cut full haircuts, yes: the clipper removes bulk and the trimmer finishes the edges. For beard and neckline upkeep only, a trimmer is enough.

Can I pay with Afterpay or Zip?

Can I return a product I have opened?
No. For hygiene reasons, opened or used products cannot be returned unless they are faulty.
What is your returns policy for unopened items?
Unopened, unused items in original packaging can be returned within 30 days for a change of mind. Return postage and a restocking fee of $10 or 10% (whichever is less) apply.
What if my order arrives damaged or faulty?
Email care@zilion.co.nz within 5 days of delivery with your order number and photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund.
Do you deliver to PO Boxes or overseas?
No. Our couriers do not deliver cosmetics to PO Boxes, and we ship within New Zealand only.
